introduction

I am Linda and I teach first grade. We have a population of children that are over 50% poverty and the children come to first grade at all levels of ability. I have been teaching 30 years and I am always looking for the best way to teach each child. I did some research on Howard Gardner's theory when I was working on my masters. I need to refresh what I learned and I am looking forward to reading and discussing Thomas Armstrong's book.

Have your students take the MI survey. Even though this is not a scientific survey, how might this benefit you and your teaching? What other uses can you think of for using the information you get from the survey?
Chapter 2
Answer question #1 on page 20.Think about your intelligence(s) that may not be very well developed at this juncture in your life. Do you shy away from using these intelligences in your teaching and do you have a tendency to like those students who have strong intelligences that match yours? What ramifications might your answers have on the learning in your class?

multiple intelligences and the brain
I'm glad to have you aboard. We will begin the class on July5 and it will end on August 15. You will have ample time to complete the class. We will be using the book "Multiple Intelligences in the Classroom" by Thomas Armstrong. Even though it was written 5 or 6 years ago I think it has the most practical information and lots of ideas and charts that will be very beneficial. I hope to also make this class as relevant as possible and hope the assignments reflect what you need to meet the needs of the kids in your class right now. Please note that the assignments are susceptible to your environment. If you find that timing or schedule doesn't allow for you to try some of the things in the assignment just indicate how you will do it in the future. If you can try the things I ask, please do. If you need any clarification about the assignments please let me know...I know how teaching works and sometimes things don't always mesh. My home phone is 715.236.20988 and feel free to call me if there are ever problems. My home email is bslowey@charter.net. Have a great journey with the intelligences...we will all learn a lot. Thanks for taking the class...Barney Slowey
