Hi, my name is Tom. I have 2 children, my daughter away at college and a senior this upcoming year and my son who is a junior in high school in Green Bay. I work at Kimberly High School as a school counselor. While I am responsible for letters GRA to MAS; I make an effort to get to know all the students. We also have a grade we focus on and I have the seniors: senior meeting the first day of school and of course scholarships/awards nite.
As for a place to vacation: There are many but I think that the gulf coast of Florida is fantastic along with northern Wisconsin.
Well I am looking forward to this class and how I can use it in school this upcoming year since we are redoing our curriculum in Student Services and will be in the classrooms more than in the past.
Welcome aboard Tom...When you get the book have at it...I
'm not sure who all will come aboard but there were 7 or 8 interested...by the way you will be in charge of making sure my daughter doesn't screw up at UWGB!...kidding!
Hi, I am Linda, and I think I posted my intro in the wrong place. I teach first grade. We have a population of children that are over 50% poverty and the children come to first grade at all levels of ability. I have been teaching 30 years and I am always looking for the best way to teach each child. I did some research on Howard Gardner's theory when I was working on my masters. I need to refresh what I learned and I am looking forward to reading and discussing Thomas Armstrong's book.
Hi Lind...where do you teach?...It sounds like you and Tom are veteran teachers and I look forward to your reflections on the book
Hi, my name is Jerry and I am a high school history teacher at Wilmot High School, just outside of Kenosha. I have three children, a 6 year old girl, a 4 year old girl and a 2 year old boy. I have been teaching at Wilmot for 13 years and I have coached basketball, baseball, football and softball at one time or another for all 13 years. As for a favorite place to vacation that is kind of funny, with a 6,4 and 2 year old, vacation to me is a golf course anywhere away from them. However vacation to them would be a waterpark in the Dells. A vacation for my wife is scrapbooking away from all of us. It all depends on the
Hi Jerry...glad to have you with us...I too coached all those sports but I was a head basketball coach for 27 years and now I'm a volunteer assistant...In fact I coached one of your history cohorts Don Serkowski..one of the best players I ever coached...I too taugt history and i still teach two courses for the college here in town...I' practicing what I preach in that I do not lecture at all and the class is project oriented..kids love it compared to the more traditional class...its all based on MI ...I have them demonstrate their learning and we have gallery walks where the kids teach each other and get graded by them...I find that the quality of work is so much better than pencil and paper stuff...oops thats for another chapter...hi to Don
Jerry...do you know if Gina Stack is taking this course?
Hi!! I posted in the wrong place, too!!! So I will try again!! My name is Sue Russo. I teach Family and Consumer Education at Durand Junior Senior High School. Currently, I teach a comprehensive Family and Consumeer class/Health for the 7th and 8th graders. This semester I will be teaching Child Development, Eating for Health, Food Preparation, and Advanced Foods. More than likely I will be teaching a class for the cognitive disabiliy students related to life skills.
This summer I am enjoying doing alittle babysitting for my two grandchildren (a one year old and a two year old). Wow!!! I forgot how much energy they have. Plus, my husband and I enjoy going up to Phillips to visit our relatives and take a yearly visit to Las Vegas. Of course, I must mention going to a Brewers game in July.
Since I teach such a variety of students, I'm always concerned if my learning experiences are meeting their needs in order for them to be successful. Even after 32 years of teaching. I am still learning and I am interested in gaining more knowledge about multiple intelligences. I want to be creative with my lesson plans and use a wide variety of learning experiences.
Barney,
Wow small world.
I was the head basketball coach for 10 years, but now have gone to a volunteer assistant job as well. Life has slowed down quite a bit now, and still get to enjoy coaching. Don is still a very good basketball as he beats me up in Friday morning hoops. I will call Gina Stack and see what she is doing.
Hi, Barney asked where I teach. I teach in Reedsburg, WI. Are we all in Wisconsin?
Hello,
My name is Tom Bethke and I am currently teaching 6th grade math at Evansville Middle School.
My wife Kelly is also a teacher so we race to see who can finish grad classes the quickest in the summer. She is currently working towards a Health Minor from UW Stout so I think I will win this summer.
When not taking online classes I like to officiate basketball (all over Wisconsin) and coach middle school football.
On a side note...I went to high school in Mondovi, WI and my mom taugh Home Ec at Mondovi for many years. Sue from Durand (I am assuming Durand, Wisconsin and not Illinois) may know my mom Janet or my classmate Todd Poeschel who is the Durand Girls' Basketball Coach.
And in the end it all comes back to sports...
amen!!!
Tom: Yes-- I know your Mother very well. We spent "alot of time" together with FHA (FCCLA,now) and conferences.
Wow--small world. Carol Sandberg is very close friend of mine and she is the guidance counselor for the Jr/Sr High. After John Pollock retired she came back to the high school from the elementary. Our kids are the same age and have been family friends. Yes, I know Todd. Great--guy!! He keeps me in line--at least I let him think that.
By the way did you play football for Stout? Or was this your brother? My son played football for Eau Claire '95, '96, '97
He was their punter.
Yes it is a small world!! Sue
Sue,
Carol was my favorite guidance counselor in school when she was at Mondovi. I have asked Janet about you and she said she has known you for a long time FHA etc... Don't believe a word Todd would say about me either...I am sure it would not be true. If Todd keeps you in line then who keeps him in line? I have known Todd since we were in 4th grade.
It was my brother Mike who played for Stout. I practiced (I did not play as much as Mike) at River Falls for 3 years 91,92,93...
Thanks for the update...Good Luck in the class...
